COOL HANGOUT SPOTS FOR THE CREATIVE PEOPLE

There are so many places in the Klang Valley where you can just chill out, relax, enjoy free broadband Internet and have some fun without burning a hole in your pocket or going home with a pain in  your back. A place where everyone, particularly the creative crowd converge to socialise and have a great time.Thanks to the crumbling economy, more and more people have loads of free time to look forward to. There are a few cool hangout spots to chill out and relax around the Klang Valley  that you may have not heard of. So, turn off the television and step away from the couch and check out Backyard. The sight of heaving bodies was not exactly my idea of a night out. But mix cleavage with samba rhythms, pulsating to snappy tequila shots, The Backyard writhes with more than family excitement after 11.30pm. The fact that it has been voted the Best Music Pub in the Klang Valley is easily forgotten when you’re in the company of its discerning patrons who’ve taken that fact for granted. You’ll even be forgiven for thinking you’re Mark Knopfler with your air-guitar playing because there are quite a few of them around the corner of the bar.Later that night I visited Zouk KL for the very first time and was taken aback by its with its high ceiling and spacious atmosphere that I reckon can easily hold 2,000 people. I was informed that the club was named after the French Creole word for ‘party’ and is hard to miss when traveling along Jalan Ampang. Maybe it is due to its unique boulder like exterior. I noticed that the dance floor is huge and had a feeling that this is indeed the venue for serious clubbers, with four main sections: two bars (The Loft and Terrace) and two dance halls (Main Room and Velvet Underground). It takes time to get adjusted to the atmosphere here but soon I was dancing all night to some sort of Mambo music that I had no idea existed in the first place.

There are several notable and upcoming ones as well. Maison along Heritage Row is still quite new and not very crowded yet. Laundry Bar at The Curve is quite funky in Mutiara Damansara and seems to be the right place for drinking these days, or so I was told. Mont Kiara’s Starbucks opens 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays, just in case you are bored and got nothing to do on weekends. There are some nice pubs and restaurants in Sri Hartamas as well. The Reggae Bar at Chinatown is not bad. I have not been there for a while now but it is quite a relaxing place. Lots of travelers and passers by and a number of hot chicks too. There’s KL Jogoya, a 580-seating Japanese buffet in Starhill Gallery. I was informed that the bar in the lower ground has good cheap beer too. There’s also Carnegies in Plaza Central near Wisma Cosway and when you’re there, don’t forget the rubber.
One thing for sure, the clubbing crowd of Kuala Lumpur can be quite finicky, constantly changing their preference for more avant-garde and newer establishments and effectively bankrupting the old ones.
Now, head out there and get your seats staked out early.
